Public Policy Issues / Priorities

The Church has an obligation to address and analyze public policy issues from a social and moral point of view.  It also has the responsibility to inform its members of the position it takes in supporting or opposing specific legislation.

Shaping public policy is the responsibility of every person.  Our democratic form of government and our Church both call us to become involved.

Specific Legislative Positions Are Developed

ICC staff analyzes issues, asking:

What is the nature of the issue meriting legislative action?
       What Catholic principles apply?
Are proposed solutions morally and ethically acceptable?

Consultation with experts and documentation from Catholic and other sources help determine a formal position.
